GCSE RESULTS

2023 GCSE results continue to buck the national trend

Well done to everyone for an excellent set of GCSE and BTEC results too. In a year when national newspapers bemoan a fall in results, at LSU 74% of all grades were at or above grade 4 and 25% of all grades at 7 or above. Top performer Lewhat will go on to study Music A level as well as two other subjects, hoping to go on to a conservatoire and eventually compose music professionally. Louise-Ann also achieved top grades and will study Computer Science, Maths and English or Religious Studies, and hopes to go into software design whilst also pursuing her passion for the spoken word (Louise-Ann is a member of our award-winning Debating Society).

Zeynab will go on to study the three sciences at LaSWAP and will one day become a neuroscientist and Liliana enrolled for A level sciences and psychology at LaSWAP with the aim of studying science at university. There were also top grades across the board for Zarin who will read politics at university after her A levels and is determined to stand for election as Prime Minister! Meanwhile Anna is excited to be continuing her studies at LSU following an excellent set of GCSE results. Anna will study Computer Science, English Literature and Maths in our consortium (LaSWAP) and plans to go on to read Computer Science at university.

Testament to our STEM programme, Anneliese achieved great GCSEs and will study A levels in physics, maths and geography at LaSWAP. She aims to study aeronautical engineering at university, a course we have plenty of experience preparing students for!

Reaching High – GCSE results 2022

Congratulations to our students on an excellent set of GCSE results! Grades were above the national average and the number of 7-9s were up. There were excellent results in Maths which matched the usual excellent outcomes in English, as well as some fabulous success stories for individual students. This included Niamh T who achieved a full set of grade 9s and is excited about starting her courses at LSU in LaSWAP. Many students enrolled at the Sixth Form Consortium and were excited about staying on.

Continuing to achieve outstanding GCSE results 2021

Year Eleven students at La Sainte Union have been awarded outstanding grades in their GCSEs. The class of 2021 faced a particularly difficult time since the pandemic sent us into lockdown in March 2020. We are particularly proud of what La Sainte Union students have achieved and we admire their resilience. They embraced online learning during the two lockdowns and coped with the complete change to the way they were to be assessed for their GCSEs when public exams were eventually cancelled and replaced with in-class testing in the final weeks of Y11. Our students responded very well to the advice and guidance given by their teachers, and they have achieved these excellent results through sheer hard work and determination.

Headlines

  • 83.8% of students achieved a standard pass in 5 or more subjects including English and maths, opening up a wide range of opportunities post-16
  • 84% of students achieved 9-4 in both English and mathematics, with 92% 9-4 in English and 85% 9-4 in mathematics. These grades are vital for many post-16 options.
  • Top grades (7-9) increased as expected, reflecting the success of our professional focus on stretch and challenge: 42% of students achieved a 7-9 in English, 31% in Maths.
  • Science grades were particularly pleasing: 80% of students studying combined sciences achieved a grade 4 or above, 100% of students studying separate (triple) sciences achieved a standard pass, with 75% achieving top grades 7-9, reflecting our ambition and commitment to improve gender balance in traditionally male dominated careers.

Individual successes

48 students achieved an average grade of 7-9.

For example:

LB achieved nine grade 9s and an A in additional maths.

Another year of outstanding GCSE results for La Sainte Union in 2020

Year Eleven students at La Sainte Union have achieved an outstanding set of examination results. The unique situation of a national lockdown has been hard for young people and their families, and we are particularly proud of what La Sainte Union students have achieved in the face of such difficulty.

It is important to remember that this cohort completed five terms of their courses and covered all, or very nearly all, of the exam specifications during that time. At La Sainte Union, we know that our students worked hard, engaged with their learning and responded to advice and guidance. They were ready to give their examinations their very best efforts when the Covid 19 pandemic deprived them of this opportunity. The formal qualifications which they have achieved are a recognition of their hard work and application.

We are delighted with these results which reflect the strong work ethic which exists throughout the school. Year 11 worked hard and the excellent teaching staff supported them exceptionally well. La Sainte Union has proved once again that this is a school in which all students can thrive and achieve their very best.
