Year 6 Transition
There is no such thing as a typical La Sainte Union student as each one arrives with their own set of unique talents and interests.
It is our privilege to challenge and support them to develop a greater understanding of the bright woman she is and encourage them to achieve the bold future of their choice. This support starts long before their first day.
We know how exciting the move from primary to secondary school can be, what with the opportunity to learn new subjects, experience new co-curricular and enrichment activities, and form new friendships all within a new and bigger environment. But we also know that it can be a daunting and challenging time too.
Our transition programme has been exclusively designed to ensure all students feel supported in their transition process and that it goes as smoothly as possible. It also allows us to get to know your daughter so that we can personalise her learning experience when she arrives.
Our Transition Programme
March
Our transition programme kicks off with our Welcome Evening in March. This is a fantastic opportunity for your daughter to begin building friendships with her future classmates, meet her new teachers and enjoy an exciting taster lesson; whilst parents hear from our senior leaders and have a chance to ask questions.
Year 6 girls who have not been offered a place at La Sainte Union are also invited to our Welcome Evening as we are committed to providing as many young people within our local community the chance to experience life at secondary school in order to support their transition.
April
During the start of the Summer Term, our inspirational students and staff visit primary schools to meet with Year 6 pupils and talk to them about their experience at La Sainte Union, answering any questions they may have.
Your daughter will be left with an ‘All About Me’ form to complete and return in June so that we can find out as much about her, her interests and hobbies as possible.
May
Our new starters should keep an eye out in the post for a special SATs exam preparation kit as well as one of our transition bulletins, complete with top tips on starting secondary school.
June
Our Parent Handbook provides you and your daughter with a wealth of information about studying at La Sainte Union, including term dates, timings of the day, equipment and uniform.
All our new starters attend a personalised 1:1 meeting with a member of the Senior Leadership Team or Pastoral Team in June. This is another chance for us to find out more about your daughter and for you and your daughter to ask any questions you may have.
July
In July, your daughter will spend a day in school for their Induction. This includes a tour of the school, meeting classmates and getting to grips with what life at secondary school is all about.
On a Saturday in July, we also host for a uniform sale where you can also meet and greet our Governing Body.
August
We host a Summer School during the holidays which includes curriculum workshops to support the step up to secondary school learning as well as some engaging activities in sport and the creative arts.
September and beyond
Your daughter’s first day in September will be Year 7 only to allow her the chance to familiarise herself with her new surroundings and settle in as a new member of our community. Transition doesn’t end here though…
Throughout her time with us, she will be supported through our buddy system, academic mentoring programme and our exceptional pastoral team who focus not only on her academic achievement but her personal development, mental health and wellbeing.
We also look forward to welcoming parents and carers back to our Settling in Evening in early October, and also to our Performing Arts Evening in the latter part of the Autumn Term.
