Drama
Our thriving Drama Department not only educates but also inspires students to pursue their passion for the performing arts.
Whether through clubs, school productions, exams, workshops or theatre trips, our students are encouraged to dream big and shine bright on every stage.
We host one to two whole school productions each year, showcasing a diverse repertoire from Shakespearean classics to contemporary plays and musicals. Recent productions include Taming of the Shrew, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Macbeth, Little Shop of Horrors, The Good Woman of Setzuan, The Crucible, Julius Caesar, Metamorphosis, Twelfth Night, Blood Wedding, Top Girls, Festival of Greek Theatre and Chicago. Our Year 10 students also have the unique opportunity to perform in local theatres as part of their GCSE Drama course, gaining invaluable experience in a professional setting and engaging with the wider community.
Our Year 7 and 8 Drama Club provides a welcoming space for younger students to explore their interest in Drama. Through fun and interactive activities, students develop their acting skills, learn about stagecraft and build strong friendships. In Year 9, every student takes the Trinity College Speech and Drama exam, fully funded by the school. This initiative consistently achieves outstanding results, with more than half of our students awarded Distinctions year after year.
Through our partnership with the Donmar Warehouse, we are able to offer students bespoke workshops as well as tickets to various productions, providing direct insight into the professional world of theatre. We also organise trips pantomimes and West End productions such as & Juliet and Hamilton, ensuring students experience a wide range of genres.
We regularly invite guest speakers to share their career journeys and experiences with our students. Recently, Bee Rowlatt, a prominent writer and broadcaster, visited to speak with our A Level students about Mary Wollstonecraft and the importance of challenging social norms through drama. These sessions provide inspiration and provoke thoughtful discussions that deepen students' understanding of the power of theatre.
