Future Architects
We were honoured to be able to take 10 year 10 and year 12 students to Arup Architecture on Tuesday 22nd November. Students were introduced to the role of an architect and life in an architecture firm, as well as university and apprenticeship pathways into the profession. Students were also given an office tour of Arup’s showcase building on Fitzroy Street and encouraged to try out some skills themselves. It was revelatory to understand the role of a building in human health and well-being, social and cultural capital and even national identity. We even learned how the Sydney Opera House was built by Arup in the earliest days of computer-assisted design! While students worked and learned, teachers and advisers were meeting with Arup to help them design a new work experience and mentoring pipeline with local schools – truly inspirational, and a great credit to the company’s commitment to helping young people. Our students were impeccably behaved and fully engaged, and the staff at Arup gave us a wonderful welcome, it was an excellent day of work-related learning.
