Geography field trip
On 6th-8th June, the Geography department took the year 10 GCSE Geography students on their residential field trip to Swanage, Dorset. This was organised by Ms De’Ath and we would like to thank her for all her hard work organising the trip and all the resources, even though she was unable to attend. We want to say a very sincere thank you to the fantastic staff that attended the trip (Mr Wigman, Ms Crabtree, Ms O’Donnell and Mr Buckler) who made it run so smoothly and so memorable.
The students collected fieldwork data on coastal management, interviewed local people about rural deprivation and undertook bi-polar surveys. The students were an absolute credit to the school and made a fantastic impression on the Lesson House staff. Although this is a compulsory trip that is required for the GCSE exam, the residential is also a great opportunity for the students to experience the topics they are being taught, see a new location and have fun with their friends/peers.
The Geography trip was loads of fun and extremely exiting! We got to see all the topics we learnt in class and watch how they work in real time. My favourite moment during the trip was visiting Durdle Door, a limestone arch located in Dorset. It was a beautiful sight and worth the walk up a huge hill.

Going to Dorset was a fantastic opportunity, which we all really enjoyed. As well as being really informative and helping us understand our class work by seeing real-life examples of what we discuss at school, we had the time to do and see some remarkable things. On the first day after we did our work we got to spend time on the beach in Swanage Bay, and again on the second day at Durdle Door we got to see amazing formations and even go down to the beach to dip our feet in. Not to mention, spending time away from school and home with friends was also great fun. I'm very grateful for the chance to go on this trip and hope there will be similar ones in future for us and other years.
