Highgate Jazz Festival
On Sunday 19th June, the Jazz Concert for the Highgate Festival took place at Lauderdale House. Schools and Camden Borough Jazz Bands took part in this celebration of our young musicians. Representing LSU and LaSWAP were the year 12 and year 13 A Level Music students, who have been rehearsing and performing as a band since the start of the academic year with our drum kit teacher, Phillip Harper. They have performed at St Luke’s as part of the Camden Spring Festival and now as part of the Highgate Festival. Their set included “Little Sunflower” by Freddie Hubbard and “Endangered Species” by Wayne Shorter. There was also a premiere of an own composition by one the year 12 students; Ollie Thoburn. They performed with flair and a great sense of teamwork, even without their frontline singer, Melat Abiy, who was unable to perform due to being unwell. We are extremely proud of our wonderful musicians, it was a fitting end for the year 13 students, who we now say goodbye to.
